Let’s talk about the great AI tool compatibility illusion.
You sign up for Gemini, poke around the Google ecosystem, and think, “This should be seamless.” You imagine Gmail talking to Calendar, talking to Docs, all whispered through the magic of AI. Instead, you get something more like, "Sure, I can help with that!" followed by, "Well, sort of. Not really."
It feels like being handed a Swiss Army knife where half the tools are decorative. Promises everywhere. Integration? Not quite. You start wondering whether you’re the problem, or if the tools are just pretending to get along.
That’s been the weird joy of this whole journey. Gemini had the branding. The context awareness. The drama. But it never quite clicked. Meanwhile, old mate ChatGPT didn’t claim to be besties with your inbox, but it actually helped when you needed it. Read a document? Done. Draft a reply? Sure. Not flashy—just functional.
This post isn’t a product comparison. It’s more like a public diary entry from someone testing all the shiny tools, realising many of them are still in their awkward teen years. Sometimes it's not about finding the best tool. It’s about figuring out which one doesn’t lie to you first.
So yeah, I’m still trying things. Still stumbling through trial periods. Still hoping one day they’ll all just sit down and get along. But until then, I’ll keep using the one that doesn’t pretend to be magic.
